A couple of friends of mine had previously been involved in other direct sales companies. I always enjoyed supporting them, both attending and hosting parties, and I quite fancied the idea of being involved myself!
Then one day, while on maternity leave with my third baby in August 2016, I stumbled across an advert for Usborne Books at Home on Facebook. Being a mummy and also a part time primary school teacher I was very familiar with the books, particularly the That’s Not My... range but never knew it existed as a work from home opportunity.
I sent off for more info and signed up pretty much immediately! I didn’t really know much and my only hopes were to have a bit of time to be ‘me’, have some fun and earn a little bit of extra pocket money!
When my starter kit arrived I was so excited looking through the books, I knew I had made the right decision! It was at this point I saw there were some (optional) quickstart incentives on offer. At first glance I was quite daunted by them but after a successful launch party with my lovely friends and family and another couple of events booked in I decided to go for them and to my delight I achieved both kit boost and kit refund within my first six weeks!
The next two incentives were connected to team building and despite this not even being a consideration when I joined I thought ‘I’ll give it a go!’ By then end of November I had built a small team and promoted to team leader!
It was then I realised I’d got the bug! By becoming a team leader it meant I was able to attend the Leadership Academy, two days of training held by head office at a 5* luxury stately home in Oxfordshire, complete with spa, 3 course evening meal and lots of fizz!
This led to another unexpected but very welcome positive, new friends! I LOVED attending my first Leadership Academy and all the other perks that being in the gold level of the business development programme brought and I decided to make it my goal to stay at this level.
Fast forward a year and having achieved the gold level three times I found myself fulfilling the criteria of Usborne’s biggest incentive of all! A fully expensed, luxury 5* trip to INDIA!
Standing in front of the Taj Mahal with my newfound friends I couldn’t quite believe that spending £38 on a box of books had brought me here! But it has... and it could take you too!
