Katie Daynes

Katie Daynes has written oodles of books for Usborne, from lifting the flaps on germs and poo, through things to spot in the sea and at school, to the life stories of Nelson Mandela and Marie Antoinette. She wrote My First Chess Book after being taught by her son, Joe Birks, who became the British Under 9 Chess Champion in 2017. She now lives in Yorkshire with her architect husband, two inquisitive children and a hamster called Toffee. When she’s not writing books, Katie likes walking on the blustery moors, meeting friends for coffee and playing competitive board games.

Press reviews

A really great book for new school starters, which is packed full of wonderfully detailed illustrations, as well as masses of activities to stimulate observation, imagination and plenty of conversation!
There are puzzles, games and, of course, stickers, all of which helps familiarise children with what to expect.

This colourful sticker book offers parents fantastic opportunities to talk to their children about the things they will see and do - and the people they will meet - when they start school. It gives children a really positive look at school and there are lots of activities to do as well, which will all help develop learning skills. An excellent book, full of variety and perfect for all children starting school.
